Doula services include…

Birth plan guidance.

What are your goals and how can we set you up for success alongside reasonable expectations for all of the unknowns of birth.

A postpartum plan for thriving.

Just like planning for a wedding, vacation, or moving homes, thinking through all of the logistical challenges of postpartum, ahead of time, will give you optimal opportunities to actually relax and enjoy your new family. I have tools and exercises to help you to be as prepared as possible.

Emotional nurturing and reassurance.

Most of the emotional stress of birth and postpartum comes from not knowing what is normal, safe, and healthy. A doula can give you all of this information and assurances along the way as each new situation arises.

Basic household operations for birth and postpartum.

Whether we begin working together before your baby arrives or afterwards, there will be lots of little tweaks and changes needed to accommodate a new person into your home! I can help you to optimize your space and logistical set up for baby so that your daily routines and sleepy midnight feedings go as smoothly as possible.

Practical guidance and experience.

How to bottle feed for less gas and burping? How to breastfeed without getting a knot in your shoulders? How often to sanitize pump parts and how much feeding is too much? So many questions arise, and often, google or youtube just isn’t up for the challenge. Theres nothing like having a warm, kind human to not only demonstrate but teach you all you need to know.

Referrals & references.

Many families I work with are new to Chicago or the US, so I’ve made a point of collecting all my favorite recommendations for home and family services. If theres something on my list you don’t see, please do ask! I love connecting families with all the resources and information they need.

There are things outside of my scope of practice, including but not limited to deep cleaning, staying in your home without another adult present, and medical care or diagnosis.

COVID-19 and other safety considerations.

Heather is fully vaccinated and up to date on Covid-19 and Tdap. Please don’t hesitate to ask about any other safety concerns or questions.

Testing.

I can be tested the week before my time with your family begins at your request.

Masks & sanitation.

I am happy to wear a mask if preferred and will wash my hands frequently while in your home

Distance.

I can focus on more assistance outside your home if desired and maintain any distancing that you feel comfortable with while inside your home.

Remote options.

I offer video chat check-ins for emotional and educational support if desired.
